Library Mission
The mission of the Sonoma State University (SSU) library is to support the educational goals of SSU. The library supports the university by providing access and ownership to recorded knowledge and information. In addition, the library provides a program of instruction addressing the stages and styles of learning and critical thinking skills of its students, in order to enable them to carry on a dynamic life of the mind as active citizens and leaders in society.
The primary goals of the library are:
- to identify and collect information resources that support SSU's curriculum.
- to provide unencumbered access to materials owned, leased, or linked by the library for members of the SSU community.
- to teach SSU students to choose carefully among the knowledge and information sources that are available.
- to enable SSU students to identify the appropriate use of that knowledge/information in the formulation of questions, arguments, problem definition or defense of a position.
- to provide a repository for and access to archival information related to SSU.
- to serve as an educational and cultural resource for people in communities surrounding the university.
