Digital Collections
Our newest digital special collection, North Bay Historic Preservation Digital Collection, offers public access to photographs that highlight a significant piece of the North Bay’s social and cultural history dating from the mid-1800s to the 1970s. Most of the photographs were taken by SSU students enrolled in the History Department’s Historic Preservation Program. See http://northbaydigital.sonoma.edu/
Another new digital collection, North Bay Digital Maps, gathers images of geologic and topographic maps for easy access by students and faculty. The collection includes the counties of Sonoma, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa and Solano. Go to http://library.sonoma.edu/regional/regmaps_sonoma.php
Art Index Adds Full Text
This database (now Art Full Text) offers full text plus abstracts and indexing of an international array of peer-selected publications—now with expanded coverage of Latin American, Canadian, Asian and other non-Western art, new artists, contemporary art, exhibition reviews, and feminist criticism. Full-text coverage for selected periodicals is also included. In addition to articles, Art Full Text indexes reproductions of works of art that appear in indexed periodicals.
Donations
The family of Lawrence Livingston Jr., a former ENSP instructor and a legendary Bay Area planner, donated items to the SSU Library. Mr. Livingston helped define the concept and value of “open space” and was known for his contributions to San Francisco’s Market Street, BART, and to the Bay Area’s natural landscape.
The Jewish Community Library at Congregation Beth Ami in Santa Rosa recently donated a large collection of academic books and reference materials to the library. These items will provide a welcome core collection in support of the new Jewish Studies minor.
A large donation of opera CDs will allow students to listen to and compare varied performances from throughout the 20th century.
The Science Fiction/Fantasy Writers of America is continuing to donate copies of new titles to the SSU Library.
