Library Quick Tour Transcript

Welcome to the Sonoma State University Library! Let me take a minute to show you around. We'll start with the first floor. This floor is the loudest, and the liveliest! This area, also known as the Information Commons, has approximately 35 dual boot computers, for both PC and Mac users, as well as printers for both black and white, and color printing. We have an Information/Help Desk that provides you with computer support or help with general questions. You can also find the campus Writing Center on this floor, where you can get help developing your writing skills.

Up one level on the 2nd floor of the Library is where you can get help with all kinds of questions! Since the main entrance to the Library under the clock tower is on this floor, it gets pretty busy. Right next to the entrance, you will find the Information & Checkout Desk. Here, you can check out books, pay Library fines, pick up items you requested from the ARS, check out a study room, and get a course reserve item. You can also request Research Help from a librarian. Across from this desk is our gallery space which hosts a variety of exhibits throughout the year. You can also check out a movie in DVD Central. Down the hall in the Library Teaching Center, you can also visit the Digital Lab, which is in the same area as our Library classrooms. It has multimedia software, like Photoshop, as well as scanners that you can use for free. The 2nd floor also has approximately 65 dual boot Mac and PC computers, printing, and the magazine & newspaper collection.

What if you need a quiet place to study? You can find this on the 3rd floor, where we hold most of the Library's book collection. The rest of our print collection lives in the automated retrieval system, or the ARS. Want to drop off a job application? You can do this at the Library Administration office on the north wing of the third floor. On the south wing, you will see an Information/Help Desk. Visit this desk for help finding books or to ask a general question. What if you need a private Group Study Room? These 12 rooms can be checked out down one flight of stairs at the Information/Check-Out Desk (on the 2nd floor).
