International Authors

Places to start:
- Ask for help at the reference desk!
- There are a different ways to approach this assignment, such as:
- Searching a database for international authors
- Using reference books to identify international authors
- Browsing the literature area of the 3rd floor stacks
- If you don't know which way to begin, ask for help at the reference desk on the 2nd floor.
Reference Books (on 2nd floor south):
- Reference books are a good place to get a list of authors from your country.
- Search Snoopy using ADVANCED KEYWORD . Limit the LOCATION to REFERENCE. Then try, for example:
- Locate the reference books in the reference area and look through them
- Write down a few authors
- Search Snoopy by author to see if we have any books by them
- Remember: we may not have books by every author.
Browsing the stacks
- Browse by call number
- You will find most of your books in the P section of the 3rd floor stacks.
- Use the LC Call Number list to determine your call numbers.
- Different countries will have different call numbers.
- For fables, try browsing in the 398s of the juvenile nonfiction area (in 2nd floor north by multimedia)
Books in this library:
- Snoopy is our library catalog. It tells you what we have at the SSU library.
- Snoopy is available on all computers in the library.
- You can search by keyword, for example:
- Brazil and poets
- Japanese literature
- You can also search by author, subject, etc.
- Use this database to get a list of authors from different countries.
- In the database, you can select the nationality of the author
- You can also select the type of work, such as fiction, poetry, essays, or nonfiction .
- You don't have to enter any search terms, but you must select a nationality and/or a subject/genre from the list.
- This will give you a list of authors and books.
- Search Snoopy by author to see if we have any books by the authors you selected.
- Remember: we may not have books by every author.
