Set up for Printing from Windows Personal Laptops

  • Wireless printing is only available to patrons with a current Seawolf ID AND logged into the wireless prior to printing.
  • The Pharos Pop-Up will not show up. Print jobs will automatically be titled with the name of the document being printed and the login name of the patron’s laptop.

Begin with the Start Menu and Navigate to Printers and Faxes Panel

1. Select “Add a Printer” from the Left column, under Printer Tasks.

  1. The “Add Printer Wizard” will appear
  2. Begin with Chose next and the Panel to the right will appear
  3. Select Local Printer…
  4. Unselect the Automatically detect check box
  5. Select Next

  1. Select Create a new port
  2. The type of port will be a: Standard TCP/IP Port
  3. Select Next

  1. Printer name will be entered as:
    ssuprint.sonoma.edu
  2. Port name will automatically fill in
  3. Select Next

  1. Port settings must be customized
  2. Select Custom and then click on the Settings box
  3. Select Next

  1. Protocol = LPR
  2. LPR Settings:
    Choose from the following printers in the Library/IT to print to:
    • InfocommonsAq
    • IT24hrLab1q
      Spelling must be exact…
  3. Check the box next to LPR Byte Counting Enabled
  4. Click Ok

  1. Finish the Port Configuring
  2. Select Finish

  1. Select a printer model
  2. Chosing the HP LaserJet 5000 PS seems to work well and is available on most computer Platforms
  3. Select Next

  1. Title the Printer as:
    • SSU Library Printer
    • IT 24hr Lab Printer
  2. Select the printer to NOT be the default printer
  3. Select Next

  1. Do not share the printer
  2. Select Next. That is it!
